Purpose:To investigate the mechanisms of the dry eye symptoms induced by the LASIK procedure as well as to find out the proper resolutions for the patients.
Method : We retrospectively investigate three post –LASIK induced severe dry eyes cases for the past one year .One female as well as two males went through the precise pre- LASIK examination including Schirmer tset 1 being greater than 10 mm..
Result : Dryness with blurred or fluctuating vision were noted with these patients . LASIK-induced neurotrophic epitheliopathy ( LNE ) as well as epithelium ingrowth were developed with victims’ cornea . Either non preserved or a transiently preserved artificial tear were used for the treatment . Besides , punctum plug inserting as well as Genteal Gel lubricating were also observed for the options of the treatments .
Conclusion: LASIK-induced neurotrophic epitheliopathy (LNE) is triggered by the loss of neurotrophic influence for the corneal sensory nerves that are severed during flap formation . Decrease of both tear quantity and quality are noted 3 to 6 months after LASIK. Recurrent corneal erosion was major concern with our investigation.
