Purpose:To evaluate corneal thickness with the Orbscan topography system and the Sonogage ultrasonic pachymeter in pre and post-LASIK eyes to determine the different effects of LASIK on these measurements
Method:We measure central corneal thickness of right eyes in 30 patients before and after LASIK using both Orbscan and Ultrasonic pachymeter
Results:The ultrasound instrument consistently measured a greater corneal thickness than Orbscan pachymeter .With the retrospectively review , the mean difference between ultrasound and Orbscan pachymeter was 15.6+/-9.6 and 35.2+/-18.5 in pre and postoperative eyes respectively ( p 0.092 ).
Conclusion:Ultrasound pachymeter consistently measures thicker than Orbscan pachymeter ; and there is particular interest as to the reliability of post-LASIK central pachymeter because of concern regarding corneal bed thickness for LASIK enhancements ; therefore , it is reassuring that postoperative Orbscan measurements are consistently lower and more conservative than ultrasound measurements.
